Birmingham Croquet Club

New to the game?

Getting started is easy.

We play golf croquet, the fast, social, six-hoop version that's easy to learn and hard to put down. We're not an exclusive club, and everyone's welcome, whatever your age or experience. Come to watch, come to learn, come to compete. There's a mallet here for you, and a friendly game waiting.

1

Say hello

Post a hello in our Facebook group, or email info@birminghamcroquetclub.com. No experience, no equipment and no pressure. Just a hello gets it going.

2

Learn the shots

We'll teach you the game — running a hoop, clearing an opponent, and the quiet tactics that decide a match.

3

Play a real game

Golf croquet clicks fast. You won't spend weeks practicing alone — you'll be in a genuine game the same day.

A player in a straw hat explains the game to four women in white on a lawn, two of them holding mallets.

Want to play at home?

All you need is a patch of grass.

About 50 by 40 feet of flat grass and some equipment is enough to play. The people who started this club played for over ten years in a public park. Our court setup guide shows you how to lay one out, and backyard croquet covers the set you may already have in the garage.

It gets you outside.

Fresh air, green grass and an afternoon away from a screen.

It makes you think.

Croquet is a strategic game. Every shot is a choice, and the smart one isn’t always the obvious one.

You play with friends.

It’s a game you play side by side, with time to talk between shots.

All ages play together.

Grandkids can play their grandparents, and everyone’s on the same playing field.

Ready for your own mallet?

Ask before you buy.

Any member is glad to point you the right way. When you're ready, the equipment guide covers what to look for, and the gear directory lists the makers and shops.
